A man has been airlifted to Cairns Hospital in a critical condition after a two-car crash on the Atherton Tablelands.

Emergency services were called to Jonsson Road at Evelyn at 5.40am this morning after the cars collided on a sharp bend of the dirt road.

The rescue helicopter arrived at the site at about 6.50am and picked up a critically injured patient in his 20s who had sustained life-threatening leg injuries.

The driver of the other car, a teenage boy, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Atherton Hospital.
