No shortage of highlights as Mighty Mossman Show returns
MOSSMAN SHOW
Carnival rides, show bags, and Dagwood Dogs are back in town as the Mighty Mossman Show hits the Douglas Shire this long weekend.
Now in its 69th year, the Mossman Showgrounds will come alive on Sunday and Monday (July 18-19) with a jam-packed program of events and activities for everyone.
After being cancelled in 2020, the local appetite for the show is stronger than ever and Show organisers are raring to go to create a bigger and better event.
Mossman Show Society President Mathew Hatfield said they are expecting good crowd numbers and good weather for the weekend.
“Following the success of the Cairns Show this week we are expecting a big full show,” he said.
“We are looking to continue the success of previous years. We have a lot of different events booked; something for everyone.
“After a year hiatus the locals are really looking forward to this year’s show, everyone is really happy it’s back,” Mr Hatfield said.
Entertainment line up
From Freestyle Motocross to pig racing, snake shows, and a wood chop display, this year’s Mossman Show has everyone covered.
Aussie Fmx Freestyle Motocross
Aussie FMX is an action-packed Freestyle Motocross production, showcasing talented Australian freestyle motocross riders who specialise in performing action-packed shows around Australia.
Melville’s Pioneer Animal Farm
Come along for an up-close experience with farm animals, Melville’s Pioneer Animal Farm will be on display over our two-day show. Animals include baby chicks, ducklings, guinea pigs, turkeys, Geese, baby lambs, baby goats, piglets, calves and many more.
Noah’s Thoroughbred Pig Racing
Noah’s Thoroughbred Racing Pigs is entertainment at its best. Fun-filled enjoyment for all ages. From the bugle race call, through the obstacles, to the last snout in the finishing trough, crowds will be cheering their preferred pig to the end.
Snake show - David Williams – Resta
David Williams from Resta gives a very informative commentary on different types of snakes found throughout Australia and the world. David has many snakes available for different viewing and his shows run throughout the two days of the show.
Mossman High School Band: (Weather permitting)
The Mossman High School Concert Band will take centre stage at the Mossman Show on Monday evening to play hits from Broadway to the latest Top 40 songs. The Mossman State High School students will put on a great final performance before the fireworks display.
Fireworks Display
Watch the sky come alive on Monday night – the last evening of the Mossman show. Fireworks display will light the sky and signal the end of the show for another year. Find a good spot to watch the display at 8:00pm on Monday. The fireworks display is sponsored by Marano’s Fuel & Qube Logistic.
Things to see and do
Check out the local art, craft, photography, needlework, horticulture, agriculture and culinary talent on display in the Victor Crees Pavilion. And you must not forget the amazing displays from our local schools and kindies.
Find out more about local organisations and business at the booked out Johnston Pavilion with displays from Shannonvale Winery, Enyo, Jakes Candy & much much more. All of your local favourite charity’s will have their stalls at our show again this year. These include RSL, Lions, Rotary, Red Cross, Cancer Council, the Fire Brigade and SES.
Local cane display
You also can’t miss the Cane display located outside the Victor Crees Pavilion – Cane supplied by our local farmers.
Woodchop display
Our Woodchops will be held over two days, Sunday and Monday.
