TIM Berkel and Jodie Swallow have taken out the Cairns Airport Adventure Festival’s Ironman Asia-Pacific Championship Cairns in their respective men’s and women’s categories.

It was an all-Australian affair in the men’s with David Dellow and Pete Jacobs finishing second and third behind Berkel, who recorded a cracking time of 8 hours and 15 minutes.

Swallow led the girl’s home to finish in 9 hours and 7 minutes followed by Linsey Corbin and Sarah Crowley.

Competitors braved slippery, wet conditions early during the bike-leg that looped around Macrossan Street in Port Douglas and back to Cairns, with a small but enthusiastic crowd cheering people on throughout the day.

Melbourne’s James Ogilvie took put the Ironman 70.3 Cairns division, while Jacqueline Henricks saluted in the female division.
